A Woman's View is now using the
new improved Thin Prep® PAP
test. The cells from the cervix are
obtained basically the same way
as in the past, but instead of
immediately smearing the cells
onto a slide, the swabs are placed
in a solution which is then sent to
the lab for processing. Previously
the smear was often obscured by
blood or inflammation, but the new
Thin Prep® process removes the
debris from the cervical cells,
allowing them to be evaluated
more accurately. The cost of this
test is approximately $20 more
than the old one and is covered by
most insurance (if annual PAP
smears are covered).
