What we know and what you need to know.
Zika is spread primarily from the bite of an infected Aedes species mosquito. It can also be passed during sex or from a pregnant woman to her fetus. For non-pregnant individuals who get infected, the result is a mild flu like illness. In pregnancy, it can be much more devastating as it has been shown to cause birth defects. There is currently no vaccine or treatment.
