Women’s wellness – for a week in May, it’s a national priority

NWHW begins on Mother’s Day

National Women’s Health Week (NWHW) is an annual event led by the federal Office of Women’s Health and always begins on Mother’s Day. The goal is to increase awareness about the manageable steps women can make to improve their health. This includes staying up to date with health visits and screenings and following positive health behaviors.

Eat a healthy, balanced diet

Use Women’s Health Week as inspiration to analyze and adjust your eating habits. Choose foods and snacks that encourage heart health, and make sure you are getting the nutrients and vitamins your body needs, including Vitamin D and calcium for bone health. We encourage you learn about the Why Weight? Program offered by A Woman’s View. It is not a diet, it is a way of life. Along with helping to maintain a healthy weight that fits your body, the program helps you improve health issues such as blood pressure, blood sugar level, asthma, sleep apnea, and arthritic pain.

Get and stay active

Physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health. Exercising builds muscle strength, reduces the risk of heart disease and elevates mood. By incorporating movement into your daily routine, you create a positive habit that will serve you through every stage of your life.

Mental health is a must

Managing stress and maintaining your connections with friends and family is important for you overall wellbeing. If anxiety or stress are getting in the way of your daily activities, consider using the Counseling Services offered by A Woman’s View. We work with The Counseling Group and Kintegra Health to help you turn the tables on a variety of challenges, including: stress management, grief and loss, depression, body image disorders, addictions and substance abuse, and eating disorders.

We look forward to helping you prioritize your health before, during, and after National Women’s Health Week.
