Dr. Anita Montes on Why Weight Matters: Rethinking Weight Loss at A Woman’s View

When Dr. Anita Montes decided to find a new challenge after retiring from delivering babies, she focused on a problem close to her heart. “I now had time on my hands, I was sleeping at night, so I had a lot of energy,” she explains. Inspired to leave a lasting impact, she started the Why Weight program at A Woman’s View, aiming to address one of today’s big health issues—the problem of being overweight.

Why Focus on Being Overweight?

“It impacts almost every health problem you can have,” says Dr. Montes. Being too heavy can make simple things harder—like playing with grandchildren or getting up from the floor. “You may look healthy, but being overweight can stop you from enjoying life as you grow older.”

More Than Just a Diet

Instead of offering a quick fix or a temporary change, the Why Weight program focuses on making lasting improvements to your lifestyle. “This isn’t just a weight loss program. I’m teaching people how to integrate healthy eating into their daily lives,” Dr. Montes explains. What does that involve? It means learning what healthy eating and proper portion sizes look like—skills you can use for life.

How the Program Works

The program runs in 12-week periods, where participants come in for weekly meetings. “I hope that during these 12 weeks, you’ll learn how to eat this way, and it will start to become a habit because you’ve been doing it for 12 weeks,” Dr. Montes explains. These regular check-ins are essential for keeping up your success, providing a chance to talk about your progress and any challenges you face.

After the first 12 weeks, you can sign up for more or move to a maintenance plan, which means less frequent visits but continues over time.

Who Should Consider This Program?

Anyone who’s struggling with their weight and how it affects their daily life might think about joining. If climbing stairs is hard, if you need medicine to control heartburn, or if you have trouble sleeping, these could all be signs that it’s time for a change.

Easy to Join and Keep Up

The program is designed to be easy to join and stick with. “Some appointments have to be in person because we need to check your weight and measurements, but many visits can be done online, which can be more convenient for you,” Dr. Montes notes. You don’t need to be a regular patient at A Woman’s View to join.

Making a Lasting Impact

Dr. Montes is excited about how much the Why Weight program helps people. Many who join say they feel much better overall—they sleep better, have more energy, and their joints hurt less.

If you’re interested in the Why Weight program or think it might be right for you, visit our service page or contact us at A Woman’s View. It’s time to make a change that could improve your life for many years to come.
